Green thumb in absentia

Well these guys didn’t suffer in my absence.

Against all odds, I’m doing something right.

Topic stew

What the heck? Second day in a row of nearly effortless awakening in the AM. I think I’m doing something wrong.

Actually felt like I got some work done today. Got some things done for the curriculum website and worked with Letitia on how she can take over responsibility for its maintenance once I’m separated from the organization. Add to that some exchanges with Governet, scheduling a years worth of meeting space, and some more data entry into CurricUNET. Yep, I rock.

Sent a résumé up to the diocese today; an Administrative Assistant Position. We shall see. I think it’s helpful to be proactive. Helpful but quite difficult for me as it turns out.

Ok, know what else I pretty much suck at? Trick question. I only had one thing in mind. The correct answer is: follow-through. We’re having a tri-tip sandwich sale on Sunday. I’m sort of in charge so I should have had more of the details locked down before today. Well, it’s not too late or anything, just tardy. I think I pulled it together sufficiently though. I will have to do a crapload of running around. 🙁 But I will be getting a Costco card out of the process.

Got a semi-random email today from a woman asking if I could get together with her to do a photoshoot. She’s a bodybuilder and wants some shots for her portfolio. I totally would do this, but I’m not feeling excited about TFP (time for photos) right now. If this were a paid gig, yeah. I did tell her that if the shoot were really close by, and she was in a bind, I’d do it, but that she should look for another photographer who’d be more into free work right now.

*Several hours later*

Did my run tonight. Went SO much better than last Friday. The extra rest seems to really have helped. I ran 10 minutes, walked 1 minute, then ran 30 minutes. 3.55 miles. Breathing was amazingly easy!! Getting better!

Dinner post-run was rice, steamed vegetables, and steak. The rice came out perfect! And the steak too. I’m calling this a good day.

Good day.

Anything to hang my hat on

I was starting to think I was being punk’d. For the past year or more, my scale has disclosed to me that I weigh 245 lbs +/- 2 lbs. No matter what I do with my food consumption or level of physical activity, my mass has been remarkably consistent. In fact, a few years ago, I discontinued drinking as much as 32-48 ounces of sugared soda on a daily basis AND took my first PE class in 20 years. I followed that up with joining a gym, working with a personal trainer for a month, and closely monitoring what I ate. As a result of all of these changes, can you guess how much weight I lost? Zero. How very motivating!

So now I’ve been walking/jogging for about two months and trying to do most of my cooking at home. Based on the sum of all previous experiences, I didn’t expect much. So imagine my surprise when yesterday the scale told me that I was coming in at 240 lbs. Yeah, I was suspicious. A fluke I thought! But this morning it read the same. It’s only a couple of pounds, but anything is a welcome development.

Actually, even before this latest sign, I have been imagining thinking that my pants were fitting a little more loosely. And I am in need of a new (smaller) belt. So it’s only a matter of time before I’ll need to buy new clothes. Or…. seeing as how I never throw anything out, I probably still have clothes from 15-20 years ago that I will soon fit into! Good thing 80s fashion will never go out of style!

What are the odds?

Holy cow. The synchronicity today is astonishing!

I may have mentioned before that I’ve allowed my blood sugar to get alarmingly and dangerously high. So, in addition to medication and modifying my diet, I’ve been walking during my lunch hours for the past several weeks. Well, within the last 48 hours or so, I decided that I should get a pedometer and start tracking my progress. Hey, this is as close to an exercise program as I’ve gotten in several years! I started looking at some iphone apps to track my speed, distance, etc. and about 2 hours ago, my boss told me about one app that she’s used that’s designed to get someone from zero walking/jogging/running activity to running a 5k in about 9 weeks. 30 minutes ago, I downloaded the app and I’ve decided to try it out.

THEN! I get an email from WordPress announcing a WP WorldWide 5k! I tell you, this must be a sign!

AND! To top it all off, my friend Betty posted to her blog this morning. The name of her blog? Synchronicity.

Sacre bleu!
